I have a cousin named Claude. He's a good guy but not the sharpest crayon in the box. Recently, however, I was introduced to another Claude who, unlike my cousin, is very sharp... and ethical, too, apparently.
Of course, you probably know I'm referring to Claude.ai, the generative AI platform from Anthropic, a company founded by Daniela Amodei and her brother Dario Amodei, former employees at OpenAI.
I want to hone in on Claude in this issue for one reason: It is touted to be the most ethical of all the GAI tools out there — an AI with a conscience.
Here's what some media outlets have to say:
“Claude is trained not to give offensive or dangerous responses but can still give useful answers.” - The Times
“Anthropic made the decision to train Claude on constitutional AI, a system that uses a 'set of principles to make judgments about outputs,' which helps Claude to 'avoid toxic or discriminatory outputs' such as helping a human engage in illegal or unethical activities.” - Computerworld
“[The] founders sought a new path at Anthropic, aspiring to show AI can uplift humanity if developed responsibly. They formed a team with others sharing their safety-first vision for AI aimed at social benefit versus purely financial motivations.” - BYVI
More on what sets Claude apart from its counterparts in a moment. First, let's do a semi-deep dive into its features.
