I would doubt that the EU or any other official office is really understanding AI. Will follow you because I’m interested how it evolves. Therefore thanks for this article.
As a European I think the EU doesn't have a clear vision on how to create an environment where local companies can thrive. I'm afraid the EU AI act will just be another obstacle for the European economy.
Not just for small businesses, but for businesses in general. Looking back, GDPR legislation was meant to address the privacy of personal data in light of what Facebook and Google were doing at that time. In the meantime Facebook and Google are just fine while small and medium companies are getting fined for ridiculous reasons (data breaches - as if getting hacked is not enough) not for malicious use of private data at scale. If EU is the only big economy to regulate AI it will make itself less competitive. This is just my guess, of course. I don't have a crystal ball.
I suspect the U.S. will follow suit with some type of regulation. President Biden signed that executive order, which seems like a first volley. I, too, could be wrong. But any regulation that's bad for business -- and it seems so many are, right? -- is a bad regulation.

Thanks for the comment. You're saying it will be an impediment for small business? Just more governmental red tape/bureaucracy?
